Pre-professional division
Preparing for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations
is no easy feat. That’s why Avant-Garde is here to assist you in confidence and
skills.
Our pre-professional division is geared to music
enthusiasts interested in classical music studies. Disciplines include piano, violin and voice.
You will be required to take
the practical examination for grades 1 to 8. Technique, repertoire, and ear training are thoroughly covered.

Piano, violin and voice: Grades 1 to 4
Lesson length: 30 minutes once a week
Location: Studio or in-home
Exam dates: January or June (date is recommended by the instructor based
on the student's progress)
Suggested practice time: 20 minutes 5 times a week for grades 1 and 2.
30 minutes 5 times a week for grades 3 and 4.
Piano,violin and voice: Grades 5 and 6
Lesson length; 45 minutes once a week
Location: Studio or in-home
Exam dates: January or June (date is recommended by the instructor based
on the student's progress)
Suggested practice time: 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 times a week
Basic Rudiments and Intermediate Rudiments must be completed respectively to obtain either grade 5 or 6 certificate.
Piano, violin and voice: Grades 7 and 8
Lesson length; 45 minutes once a week
Location: Studio or in-home
Exam dates: January or June (date is recommended by the instructor based
on the student's progress)
Suggested practice time: 1 to 2 hours 5 times a week
Advanced Rudiments must be completed to obtain either grade 7 or 8 certificate.
NOTE: lesson length and practice time are to be taken as a general guideline. They may vary depending on the student's needs and goals, and instructor's recommendations.
