Got Questions? We've Got Answers

Sound Crafters Lab is a practical digital music production program for children aged 8–12. It empowers young musicians to transform their instrumental skills into digital compositions, collaborate with peers, and publish their own music online.

  • Children ages 8–12 playing an instrument for 1-2 years.
  • Skill levels are matched to ensure everyone is challenged and supported

  • Digital music production using an open-source DAW application
  • Apply their playing skills and music theory knowledge to the elements of composition (melody, rhythm, and harmony)
  • Collaboration and peer feedback
  • How to uploading finished music to SoundCloud
  • Creative problem-solving and self-confidence

Your child will need to bring their own laptop (with a standard headphone jack) and a computer mouse. We will provide the studio headphones and the MIDI cables needed to connect their computers to our in-studio keyboards! (Don’t worry if you forget your laptop one day or have a technical glitch; we do keep a few backup laptops at the studio just in case).

We ask students to bring their own laptops because it helps reduce cognitive load. When children learn a brand-new skill like digital music creation, their brains are working hard to process a lot of new information. If they have to learn how to use a brand-new computer keyboard, a different trackpad, and an unfamiliar screen layout at the same time as learning the music software, it can quickly become overwhelming. By using their own familiar device, they can focus 100% of their brainpower on being creative and learning the music, rather than struggling to figure out where the “delete” key is!

Minimum Computer Requirements:
Because we use web-based music creation software, you do not need an expensive, high-end “producer” computer.

  • Browser: The computer simply needs to be able to run the latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge smoothly.

  • Processor & RAM: We recommend a minimum of an Intel Core i3 (or equivalent) processor and at least 4GB to 8GB of RAM so the web pages load without frustrating lagging.

  • A Mouse: A plug-in or Bluetooth mouse is highly recommended over a trackpad, as clicking and dragging music tracks is much easier and faster with a real mouse.

  • All class materials (booklets, keyboards, sound libraries)
  • Six engaging classes
  • Achievement badges and collector’s booklet
  • Tutorials to support at-home learning
  • Access to a digital platform for sharing music

The program is designed for children with beginner to early to intermediate playing skills. The program is tailored by experience, ensuring everyone can participate and grow. The focus is on creativity and learning, not perfection.

Sound Crafters Lab balances group collaboration with individual activities. We follow your child’s pace of learning and provide 1:1 support and coaching. Many shy students thrive in this creative, supportive environment.

Students will discover that digital tools can be used as digital musical instruments. They’ll have the chance to apply the playing skills they’ve already learned to this new kind of instrument, expanding their musical experience in creative and exciting ways.

We offer helpful catch-up materials and support to ensure every child can stay on track. Since this is a short program, attending as many sessions as possible is highly recommended to get the most out of the experience.

Our program is led by experienced instructors who foster a positive and secure space for learning. We prioritize both psychological and physical safety, and we use strong privacy controls for any online sharing (such as SoundCloud) to protect students’ information and creativity.

We offer a “Happiness Guarantee”: If the program is not what your child was expecting after attending the first two classes, you’ll receive a full refund, no questions asked.

Music education has been shown to boost children’s thinking skills, creativity, and emotional well-being, while also helping them do better in school. At SoundCrafters Lab, kids also build confidence, learn to work with others, and develop a positive attitude toward learning new things, these are skills that will benefit them for years to come.

Unlike traditional music camps or adult-focused digital programs (e.g., Beat Drop), SoundCrafters Lab is child-centric, blends acoustic and digital skills, and provides tangible outcomes (badges, published music). It is also a pathway to our ARIA program.

Give your child the gift of music today!
