Develop your inner musician with a growth mindset

We are looking for music instructors who are passionate, positive, and genuinely excited about helping students discover their inner musician.

About AGMS

Avant-Garde Music Studio (AGMS) designs and delivers innovative learning experiences for the pursuit of life-long musical development.

When you walk into AGMS, you feel positivity all around you. Our easy going, welcoming atmosphere makes everyone feel right at home.

The Magic of AGMS

Our unique approach combines Solo Time (where a student’s pace of learning and learning style are honoured) and Ensemble Time (where collaboration, leadership, teamwork, musicianship skills, and creativity are fostered).

We are intentional about language and feedback. We shine light on what students are doing in a positive (not punishing or shameful) way.

Our Values (We Live These Every Day)

  • Give your absolute best: We inspire students to give their best through daily interactions full of positivity.
  • Solid music foundation: Solid core knowledge supports lifelong music-making.
  • Expressiveness: A safe environment where students can be vulnerable and express themselves through music.
  • Resourcefulness: Resourceful musicians become resourceful individuals.
  • Growth mindset: We see “failure” as clues and use it to recalibrate toward success.

What We Need Right Now

We are looking for someone available  Thursday evenings, 4:30 (current end time 6:30 PM), starting February 2026 (4 students initially, mix of beginner and early intermediate). As our studio grows, we anticipate:

  • Expanding Thursday hours to 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM

  • Adding teaching opportunities on additional evenings for 2026–2027

Ideal for an instructor who values a predictable weekly schedule with room to grow alongside our studio.

The Opportunity: Schedule & Compensation

Compensation & Growth Tracks (Transparent):

  1. Junior / Instructor-in-Training ($24–$27 per hour)
Emerging teachers who are building their teaching practice, including 3rd and 4th-year university music students. If you have 0–2 years of teaching experience and want structured support as you develop your craft, this track is designed for you. It’s also a great fit for career changers or teachers transitioning into private studio instruction who value mentorship and professional growth.
    Includes:
      • Formal Training: Structured onboarding in AGMS teaching methodologies, studio language, and program delivery.
      • Regular Mentoring: Scheduled development sessions plus feedback/goal-setting to support your growth.
      • Teaching Support: Guided lesson planning support and check-ins so you feel confident and consistent.
  1. Instructor ($27–$31 per hour)
Experienced educators with typically 2+ years of consistent teaching who are ready to deliver our program content guide independently and with confidence. You’ve built a track record of student retention and progress, you adapt naturally to different learning styles, and you’re excited to contribute to studio culture through leadership, collaboration, and mentoring others.
    Includes:
      • Professional Development: Ongoing learning opportunities to deepen your craft.
      • Leadership Opportunities: Opportunities to mentor others and lead/support ensemble initiatives.
      • Collaboration: Contribute to program improvements and studio culture.

Placement within the track is based on education/training, teaching experience, and readiness to deliver our program content guide consistently.

What You Will Do

      • Teach in-person (and online when needed) following our program content guidelines.
      • Work one-on-one with students and do everything in your power to help them succeed in their musical journey.
      • Attend scheduled team meetings and 1:1 development (“Thrive”) meetings.
      • Use tools like Zoom, Trello, Word, Excel, and music applications such as Flash Note Derby.

Who We Are Looking For
Our Dream Team members bring kindness, teamwork, active listening, empathy, positivity, flexibility, patience, and strong people skills into the room.

AGMS has zero tolerance for:

      • Language that is offensive or discriminatory.
      • Pressuring students when they’re not ready to take on a new challenge.
